Creekside Dreams

James smiled his rogue’s smile, the one that drew women into his orbit, sometimes into his bed. Usually Andrea was immune; they’d known each other for years. He was her best friend’s older brother. She forced herself to smile. What she really wanted to do was wrap her arms around his neck and kiss that smile. Instead, she stepped back.  Andrea looked down, watched her barely visible feet on the icy sidewalk. At seven months pregnant her biggest fear falling on the slippery sidewalk.  She’d always be his baby sister’s friend, not Andrea grown-up, not Andrea a woman he’d date. Anyway, who would want a woman whose stomach gets to every location five minutes before her body, whose feet have disappeared? She sighed. Why now? Was the sudden attraction a PROMISE of love or heartbreak?
